Meirion Owen ‘One Man & His Dogs’

Meirion Owen ‘One Man & His Dogs’

Meirion is the third generation involved with training and competing with his sheepdogs, his late father and grandfather were excellent sheepdog trainers and competitors.

Spending time with his dogs is his way of life from training, competitions and demonstrations.

He runs training classes for farmers and smallholders and called upon by corporate companies to provide teambuilding, communication skill days.

Started competing at the age of nine and has achieved considerable success over the years being a past Welsh National Champion, Captain Wales’s team in International competitions and also been on three series of the BBC ‘One Man & His Dog’

These days time away with demonstrations does not allow Meirion as much time on the competition field.

He appears regularly on TV & Radio and has appeared on the ‘One Show’, ‘Countryfile’ and ‘Songs of Praise’

Has taken a very active role within the Sheepdog Societies and have held numerous positions over the years, within his own county Carmarthenshire, South Wales Association and a past National President of Wales of the International Sheepdog Society:

Has had the opportunity to travel extensively abroad to judge and hold training classes.

Within his display Meirion will inform the process from having a pup the skills and tips needed to train your sheepdog, the dogs used by Meirion are Border Collies by the names of Trea, Sam, Jess, Helen & Sian and they will be guided around the sheep using a series of voice and whistle commands.

During the display Meirion will invite a member of the audience in to the ring to have the opportunity of working one of his dogs around a small flock of sheep.

Meirion feels privileged and honoured to be invited to the Taunton Flower Show to demonstrate with his dogs.
